Are you ready for a reality check?
I often get approached by people who want to know how I managed to accomplish my goals, such as working on FIFA World Cups or as an UEFA Venue Director
They want to know the secret to succces and I can’t blame them. After all, who wouldn’t want to achieve their dreams?
But here’s the truth: many individuals desire the same results but are not willing to take the necessary actions. They hope for a magic formula that will bring overnight success and grant them everything they desire.
If you want change, the most important thing is that you also change your behaviour.
Because you can’t expect different results if you keep doing the same thing over and over again.
Let’s consider a fitness goal as an example. If you want to get fit, lose weight, or run a marathon, you know that you need to change your behavior, you know that you need to change your behavior. You go to the gym, train regularly, adapt your eating habits, and perhaps even hire a coach. You understand that achieving your goals requires a shift in your current habits.
The same principle applies to your career and personal development. Many people find themselves stuck because they fail to take action or continue with ineffective strategies, hoping that one day things will magically change.
Let me quote Einstein there:
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
If I use the gym-example everybody understands it.
But do you also understand how important changing your behaviour is if you want to achieve different results?
And you might ask me: but how can I do that, Esther?
Here are a few pieces of advice to help you on your journey:
- Set Clear Goals that inspire you: Define what you want to achieve and be specific about your goals. Write them down and make them tangible. They might even feel out of reach.
- Create a Plan: Break down your goals into actionable (baby) steps.
- Embrace a Growth Mindset: Adopt a mindset of continuous learning and growth. Be open to new ideas, perspectives, and opportunities. Look for options instead of saying things aren’t possible.
- Visualise Success: Envision yourself achieving your goals. Use the power of visualisation to see yourself already living your desired outcome.
- Take Consistent Action: Consistency is key. Commit to taking small steps each day that align with your goals. Even the smallest progress adds up over time.
- Seek Support: Surround yourself with a supportive network of like-minded individuals. Seek guidance from mentors or coaches who can help you stay accountable and provide valuable insights. Mentors who see your blind spots and see your potential where you might not see or believe it yourself yet.
- Be ok with Failure: Don’t be afraid to fail. View setbacks as learning experiences and opportunities for growth. Use them to adjust your approach and keep moving forward.
- Practice Self-Care: Take care of your well-being. Prioritise self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. A healthy and balanced you will fuel your journey towards success.
- Start Behaving as the Person Who Achieved the Goals: Act as if you have already achieved your goals. Consider how you would behave, show up, and make decisions as that successful version of yourself. Let this mindset guide your actions and choices.
