It would have been the most logical choice after studying business economics and finishing my thesis on sales and accountmanagement with an remarkable result (9 out of 10, to be precise, still proud of my younger self😅).
At that time, I still believed this grade would bring extra value when applying for a job….little did I know that no one would ever ask for my grades in the real world.
Life had taught me early on that it could be shorter than imagined, as I lost my father at the age of 21.
With this realisation, I knew that I couldn’t settle for a career that didn’t ignite my passion. Already for a couple of years, I had been drawn to the world of sports.
It was during my time volunteering at EURO 2000 that my calling became crystal clear: this is what I wanted, I wanted to work in the world of sports, particularly in football and event organisation.
Was it the most logical choice following my university studies?
Perhaps not.
But was it the best choice for me?
Absolutely.
I understood the value of embracing life’s precious moments and pursuing my true passions.
And you know what? I wasn’t afraid to stand out along the way. Even if it meant getting dressed in a canary yellow outfit, I was willing to follow my own path.
While many people realise only after a decade or more of working that their career isn’t aligned with their true selves, I feel incredibly fortunate to have chosen my own path from the start. It’s a reminder to us all that life is too short to settle for anything less than what sets our souls on fire🔥
Now, it’s your turn to share. What’s the best decision you’ve made that set you on the path to happiness and fulfillment?
Let’s inspire each other and celebrate the possibility of shaping our own futures.
p.s. now that I have your attention: interested in my upcoming free Feminine Leadership Masterclass (in both English & Dutch)?
